2018 American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities Annual Conference Call for Proposals
January 11, 2018
Program Theme: The Future is Now: Bioethics and Humanities Re-Imagine an Uncertain World
Please join us at the 20th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities, to help us imagine, reflect on stretch the limits of and expand the boundaries of healthcare, the arts, education, policy, law, and other domains of being human in an uncertain world. We invite you to consider: How do shifting population dynamics, cultural and social norms, and emerging technologies and cutting-edge science shape our understandings of health and illness? Giving and receiving care? Living and dying? Teaching and learning? Creating and connecting with others? How do political and economic shifts create or limit opportunities in healthcare settings, or in legal, educational, environmental, and social contexts?
How do we engage with ancient traditions, established practices, and our varied histories – both distinctive and shared – in ways that support or challenge present concerns and future aims?
How do our imaginative and creative engagements with and representations of our past(s) and our future(s) help us understand our present? Is the future wide open or are dystopias closing us in? How does our broad field look back on twenty years of engagement through the ASBH Annual Meeting, and what do we imagine the future of bioethics and humanities to be? How can bioethics and the humanities work together to engage and respond to whatever is on the horizon?
Review the call for proposals for the full conference theme, full session descriptions and important information regarding submitting your proposals.
