ESC: IV Stem Cells for Heart Failure: ‘A Lot More to Learn’

(Med Page Today) – Intravenous infusion of mesenchymal stem cells failed to improve cardiac function in heart failure patients but the treatment did appear to give patients some benefits such as improvement in physical tests, researchers said here. “There was no statistically significant difference in left ventricular function between the two groups of patients,” said Javed Butler, MD, of Stony Brook University in New York, at the European Society of Cardiology annual congress.
