Turkish Women in Desperate Hunt for Embryos after IVF Clinics Shut Down in Wake of Coup

August 31, 2016

(The Telegraph) – Amid a sweeping post-coup purge, the government had shut the hospital and seized everything in it: money, equipment, patient files — and the embryo Zeynep already thought of as her second child. The Ustahüseyins are not alone. On Turkish message boards, dozens of distraught women who say they had frozen eggs or embryos at the closed IVF clinic tell similar stories. Hundreds of newspapers, schools, universities and hospitals linked to Fethullah Gülen, the US-based cleric accused of orchestrating the July 15 coup attempt, have been closed down by decree after Turkey entered a 90-day state of emergency one month ago.
