Artificial Intelligence May Be Able to Predict Remission or Resistance to Certain Drugs Used to Treat Breast Cancer

(Medical Daily) – In a study published in Molecular Oncology, Dr. Peter Rogan and his team of researchers at Western’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry describe how they’re using AI to predict a patient’s response to two common chemotherapy medications — paclitaxel and gemcitabine — used to treat breast cancer. The researchers found through genetic analysis of their tumors that patients with the same type of cancer tended to have different reactions to the same medication. While some patients responded well and went into remission, others started to build a resistance to the medication.
