September 12, 2014
(Medical News Today) – As predicted almost 70 years ago by the man who discovered the first antibiotic, drug resistance is upon us. A 2013 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that more than 2 million people in the US alone become ill every year as a result of antibiotic-resistant infections, and 23,000 die from such infections. In April this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) published their first global report on the issue, looking at data from 114 countries.
